“I first heard about human sex trafficking last spring. When I learned there are more slaves today than any other time in history, I knew I needed to help. I donated money, made t-shirts, signed petitions, but I did not feel I was making a difference. Then, in October 2008, I heard about the opportunity to run in an event on behalf of Compassion First to raise funds to build transitional centers for victims of child sexual slavery - I knew I would run. I began to send e-mails and make calls to friends and family to help me raise funds for Compassion First. There is a miracle story of God's provision following each donation. Overall, thirteen of us were able to raise $700 towards hope for human sex trafficking victims. On the day of the event, I ran with freedom in every step.” Abbi

Sparrow Clubs USA is a national non-profit organization of school-based clubs that assist children in medical crisis. Through community service and fundraising projects, Sparrow Clubs support children who have either life threatening illnesses or chronic disabilities and whose families face financial hardship because of it.  Individual schools and youth groups are paired with a qualified local child, often a class mate, who is facing a medical crisis. Sparrow Clubs offers young people a way to aid one another.

Medals4Mettle (M4M) is a non-profit organization founded in 2005. It facilitates the gifting of marathon, half marathon, and triathlon finishers’ medals from runners to children and adults dealing with chronic or debilitating illnesses and have demonstrated similar mettle, or courage in bravely facing these challenges. Our nationwide network of physicians and volunteers award these medals (with a Medals4Mettle ribbon attached) to those who might not be able to run a race, but are in a race of their own to continue to live their life. Monetary donations to help defray the cost of ribbon production are also welcome. For more information, please visit www.Medals4Mettle.org or contact Jacqueline Strand at jacquie.strand@medals4mettle.org to donate or volunteer for the Oregon Area Chapter of M4M.
