1. You completed a solo run of the CLR in 2011. Why do it again?
It seems as if I always say I don’t want to do another long distance effort and then something happens, and I find myself wanting to do it again. I thought about this a lot and what it comes down to is that I just like doing it. I like trying to cover the distance and I like the experience of trying to do something that is difficult for me. A lot of cool things have happened out there and I want to experience more. CLR is an awesome, majestic course and I want to do it one more time!
2. The first time you ran, you were running to raise funds for the Children’s Cancer Association and to honor your student, Levi Seed, who was battling leukemia. Can you give us an update on Levi?
Levi is going to be a senior in Beaverton School District now. He is cancer-free! He calls me for his tech advice questions and I met up with him a couple weeks ago and he is doing photography and even has his own website. His photos are amazing and his spirit and attitude is strong. Not too long after the CLR Children’s Cancer Association fundraiser we did, his dad took up marathon running and has blasted out some fine times. I even went to the Portland Marathon to cheer him on and took a mile or two with him. Levi looks great and is poised to take on his future.
